the National Weather Service in
a possible life-threatening situation. You can receive routine
forecasts, updated weather observations,
and warnings that could affect you and your family.
Many radios are equipped with Specific Area Message
Encoder (SAME). This allows you to
program the radio so that you can receive only warnings
for your county (or whatever county
you choose). You can receive alerts for thunderstorm
watches/warnings, tornado
watches/warnings, flash floods, winter weather, and
even Amber Alerts. Weather radios can be
purchased at stores like Wal Mart, Radio Shack, Best
Buy, etc, and aren't that expensive.
Weather radios are as important to your home and family
as smoke detectors.
